The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) has officially revoked the professional license of NorthPort guard John Amores following his involvement in an attempted homicide case in Lumban, Laguna, last September 25, 2024.

GAB confirmed that Amores was found guilty of conduct unbecoming of a professional basketball player due to the serious nature of the incident. This decision effectively bars him from playing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and other professional leagues.

During a Senate hearing on October 7, GAB Chairman Francisco Rivera had initially stated that the agency was still deliberating on whether to revoke Amores' license, pending the decision of the PBA. Just four days later, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial announced that Amores was suspended for the entirety of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup. However, he was still allowed to participate in practices and team activities with NorthPort Batang Pier.

With GAB’s final decision to revoke his license, Amores can no longer play in the PBA or any other professional basketball league. This marks the end of his career as a pro player, at least for now.

The case has sent shockwaves through the basketball community, highlighting the importance of accountability and professionalism both on and off the court.
