Big news for film and history buffs. Iain Glen, best known for playing the ever-loyal Jorah Mormont in Game of Thrones, is heading to the Philippines for a major role in the upcoming historical biopic "Quezon."

TBA Studios made the announcement on March 17, 2025, confirming that the Scottish actor will portray Leonard Wood, the U.S. Army major and former Governor-General of the Philippines. Wood played a crucial part in Manuel L. Quezon’s fight for Philippine independence, making him a key figure in the film.

A Star-Studded Cast And A Grand Production

Glen recently met with the cast and crew at The Manila Hotel for a script reading, setting the stage for what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest Filipino productions in recent years. Jerrold Tarog, the film’s director and co-writer, couldn’t be happier about Glen’s involvement:

“(Iain Glen) has gravitas. But at the same time, he can let loose, which is important for the role of Leonard Wood.”

Meanwhile, TBA Studios President and COO Daphne O. Chiu shared her excitement, emphasizing how Glen’s participation elevates the film:

“This film is shaping up to be one of the biggest productions in Philippine cinema, with one of the largest casts ever assembled. We are excited to share with Iain—and the rest of the world—the production scale and level of artistry that Filipino filmmakers are capable of.”

More Than Just a Local Film

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the Department of Tourism, and the QCinema Film Foundation have all thrown their support behind the project. With funding and backing from these major institutions, Quezon is set to be a cinematic event.

Joining Glen in the cast is Jericho Rosales, who will play the titular role of President Manuel L. Quezon.

Iain Glen: A Perfect Fit for the Role

Glen isn’t just a Game of Thrones icon—he has a long history of playing powerful, enigmatic characters. You might also recognize him as Dr. Alexander Isaacs in the Resident Evil franchise, Sir Richard Carlisle in Downton Abbey, or more recently as Dr. Pete Nichols in Apple TV+’s Silo and Magnus MacMillan in Prime Video’s The Rig. Oh, and if you’re a Castlevania fan, he’s also the voice of Juste Belmont in Nocturne!

With an international star like Iain Glen on board, Quezon is poised to grab global attention while telling a story deeply rooted in Philippine history. Safe to say, this is one film to watch out for!
