Game On: Official Campaign Period For 2025 Elections Begins
PBBM FILE
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has kicked off the campaign period for national positions in the 2025 National and Local Elections starting today, February 11, 2025. From now until May 10, 2025, senatorial candidates and party-list organizations can actively woo voters—of course, within the bounds of lawful campaigning.

But hold up. Comelec is reminding everyone that campaigning is strictly prohibited on April 17 and 18, which fall on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. So, mark those dates and plan accordingly.

Oplan Baklas in Full Swing

Before the sun even rose, authorities were already hard at work enforcing Comelec’s “Oplan Baklas,” a crackdown on illegal campaign materials. In Quezon City, officers took down posters and tarpaulins found in prohibited areas, ensuring that candidates stick to the rules.

Leading the charge, Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia personally supervised the removal of unlawful campaign materials along Honorio Lopez Boulevard in Tondo, Manila. The operation aims to clear non-designated areas of oversized or misplaced campaign paraphernalia.

What Counts as Illegal Campaign Material?

Not sure if a campaign poster is breaking the rules? Here’s what’s not allowed:
• Posters, billboards, or tarpaulins bigger than 2x3 feet
• Collage-like posters that, when combined, exceed 2x3 feet
• Single-letter posters that, when placed together, create an oversized name

With the campaign season officially in motion, expect more action from Comelec in ensuring fair and clean elections. So, candidates—play by the rules, and voters—keep your eyes peeled for the platforms (and posters) that truly deserve your attention.

Let the countdown to May 2025 begin.
