Good News For Riders: Double Plaka Scrapped And Fines Slashed
FILE
The controversial "double plate" rule for motorcycles is on its way out. The bicameral conference committee just gave the green light to amend Republic Act No. 11235, meaning the requirement for those huge front plates is being scrapped.

But wait—there’s more. The lawmakers behind this change aren’t stopping there. They’ve also decided to make fines more reasonable, capping them at a maximum of P20,000. Plus, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is stepping up to fix the license backlog, promising to speed up plate issuance by June 2026.

Big thanks go out to the lawmakers who pushed for these positive changes:

• Senator Francis Tolentino – He sponsored the proposed amendments (SB 2555)

• Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa – Co-author of the bill

• Senator Koko Pimentel – Co-author as well

And a shoutout to our champions in the House of Representatives:

• Congressman Romeo Acop

• Congressman Jam Jam Baronda

• Congressman Wowo Fortes

• 1-Rider Partylist Congressman Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez

This win strikes a perfect balance between public safety and the rights of riders on the road. It's a step in the right direction for everyone who revs their engine every day.
