In a dramatic turn of events, former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was taken into custody today, March 11, 2025, upon his arrival in Manila from Hong Kong.

Duterte Lands in Manila, Greeted by ICC Arrest Warrant

At exactly 9:20 AM, Duterte and his entourage landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) aboard Cathay Pacific flight CX 907. The moment he set foot on Philippine soil, Prosecutor General officials immediately served him the International Criminal Court (ICC) notification regarding an arrest warrant for crimes against humanity.

Despite the situation, authorities confirmed that Duterte was in good health. Government doctors conducted a routine check-up to ensure he was fit for custody. Meanwhile, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), equipped with body cameras, executed the warrant.

Confusion Over Grounds for Arrest

The circumstances surrounding the arrest remain unclear. Even Duterte’s legal counsel, Atty. Vic Rodriguez, admitted that he was unaware of the specific charges that led to the issuance of the ICC warrant.

Senator Bong Go’s Attempt to Get Answers

Senator Bong Go, a close ally of Duterte, went live on social media as he approached PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo to ask about Duterte’s whereabouts and whether his supporters or legal team could visit him. However, Fajardo was seen on video avoiding Go’s questions, refusing to provide details.

As of now, Duterte remains in the custody of authorities. More updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
