ICC Prosecution Moves Forward: Evidence Disclosed In Duterte Case
Screengrab from ICC
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is making strides in its case against former Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. In a recent development, the Office of the Prosecutor officially disclosed a set of evidence to the defense, marking another step in the legal proceedings.

What’s Happening?

The Pre-Trial Chamber I, composed of Presiding Judge Iulia Antoanella Motoc, Judge Reine Adélaïde Sophie Alapini-Gansou, and Judge María del Socorro Flores Liera, is overseeing the case. On March 21, 2025, the prosecution handed over 181 pieces of evidence to Duterte’s defense team. These materials are part of the “Pre-Confirmation INCRIM Package 001” and are linked to the warrant of arrest issued against the former president.

However, not everything has been revealed just yet. Some documents remain under wraps due to an extended disclosure deadline granted by the Chamber. Additionally, the details of the disclosed evidence are classified as “Confidential” in Annex A, meaning they are not available to the public.

What Does This Mean for the Case?

The disclosure of evidence is a key step in any legal process, especially in international criminal cases. It ensures that both the prosecution and the defense have access to the necessary materials before the trial moves forward. This latest update signals that the ICC is actively progressing in its investigation into Duterte’s alleged crimes.

What’s Next?

With the defense now in possession of these documents, the next stages could involve further legal arguments, pre-trial motions, or even additional disclosures. As the proceedings unfold, all eyes will be on The Hague to see how this historic case develops.
