Ivy Lacsina is picking up right where she left off, and it looks like she's only getting better. After playing a key role in Akari's historic finals appearance in the PVL's Reinforced Conference, the 25-year-old wing spiker has kicked off her fourth pro season in style, leading the Akari Chargers to a strong 2-0 start in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

Lacsina was at the forefront in Akari’s season opener last week, where they faced off against a tough Galeries Tower squad. Despite the fierce fight from their opponents, Lacsina delivered with 16 points, powering Akari to a hard-fought 28-30, 25-15, 25-16, 25-23 victory at the Philsports Arena.

But she wasn't done yet. In their second match against the new-look ZUS Coffee, Lacsina exploded for a massive 24 points, including 22 attacks out of 43 attempts, one block, and an ace. Her performance helped Akari secure a 25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23 win, keeping them undefeated so far this season. For her efforts, Lacsina was named the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week for November 9 to 16, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and long conference.

Reflecting on last season, Lacsina shared how the experience of Akari’s finals run pushed them to improve. “The last conference was a great experience for us. At the same time, we’ve been working on how we can get better compared to last conference, so as we continue to win, we’re still learning,” she said.

With super import Oly Okaro no longer on the team, Lacsina and her fellow locals have stepped up to fill the void. “Without Oly, everyone on our team is more eager to step up because we can only rely on each other now,” she explained. “Every training, every game, we really work hard. We’ve been trying to be more patient this conference.”

Lacsina’s impressive start hasn't gone unnoticed. She edged out the likes of Kat Tolentino, Jema Galanza, Brooke Van Sickle, and even her own teammate Eli Soyud for the weekly award, which is decided by PVL beat writers from print and online media.

Akari’s Japanese coach, Taka Minowa, has been instrumental in honing Lacsina's skills, focusing on making her a more lethal spiker. Lacsina also has dreams of playing internationally and representing the country with Alas Pilipinas.

With a heavier responsibility this season, Lacsina is ready to rise to the occasion. “I always think about how I started and the challenges I faced under Coach Taka’s system. It motivates me to keep pushing myself in training and games, helping the team in any way I can,” she said. “I don’t see it as pressure. I just enjoy it because I don’t want to disappoint the coaches who trust me.”

The Chargers' momentum will be put to the test next Saturday when they face the powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers, who are seeking their fifth consecutive title. The match will be held at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur at 6:30 p.m. after the Petro Gazz-Farm Fresh PVL on Tour game. With Lacsina leading the charge, Akari is ready to keep their winning streak alive.
