During a Senate Finance Subcommittee hearing on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada assured officials from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and the Movies and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) of his full support. Estrada, well aware of the vital role these agencies play in promoting the country's film and television industries, expressed his willingness to push for budget increases for the upcoming year.

In his conversation with FDCP Chairperson Jose Javier Reyes and MTRCB Chairperson Diorella Maria "Lala" Sotto-Antonio, Estrada emphasized the importance of their work. He highlighted how these agencies are instrumental in positioning the Philippines as a go-to destination for international TV and film production, a move that not only boosts income but also attracts tourists and elevates the country’s global reputation.

"Rest assured that we will study your budgets and see what we can do to increase them," Estrada confidently stated during the hearing.

The proposed budgets for 2025—P336.4 million for the FDCP and P164 million for the MTRCB—are now on their way for plenary consideration. With Estrada's backing, these agencies might just see a much-needed budget boost, enabling them to further their mission of empowering Filipino viewers and promoting responsible entertainment.
