Jonah Sabete has always been a player who thrives when the pressure is on, and she proved it once again in Petro Gazz's crucial victory over PLDT in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Thrust into an unexpected role, Sabete shifted from her usual position as an open spiker to opposite spiker in the opening set—filling in for veteran Aiza Pontillas. It wasn’t the smoothest start for Petro Gazz, as they dropped the first frame 12-25. But Sabete, true to her reputation, rose to the challenge and became the difference-maker in the Angels’ stunning turnaround.

The 5-foot-7 spiker adjusted to the role seamlessly, delivering a standout performance that fueled Petro Gazz to bounce back and win the next three sets, 25-14, 25-22, 25-20. Her adaptability and composure proved pivotal, finishing the game with an impressive 17 points.

This match was especially significant for Sabete, who had seen limited action in the past few games, including missing out on their previous win over Farm Fresh. Her ability to step up on short notice showcased not only her talent but also her readiness to perform no matter the circumstances.

More than her on-court execution, Sabete’s confidence was on full display. She made smart decisions, found openings in the defense, and played with a calmness that helped steady her team during tense moments.

With this win, Petro Gazz now holds a 4-1 record, sitting solo in third place and riding a three-game winning streak. The Angels will look to carry this momentum into their next match, a showdown against the undefeated Cignal HD Spikers, before heading into a well-deserved month-long holiday break.
