Korean Fugitive Recaptured In Pampanga - Five Days After Great Escape
Screengrab from BI
Looks like the Bureau of Immigration (BI) wasn’t about to let this one slide. South Korean fugitive Na Ikhyeon, who pulled off a daring escape on March 4, is back in custody—just five days later.

Na was tracked down in a residential area in Brgy. Pampang, Angeles City, Pampanga, thanks to a joint effort from the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit, Intelligence Division, and several police and military units. But he wasn’t alone. Authorities also nabbed his alleged accomplice, Kang Changbeom, who was caught on CCTV helping Na make his getaway. Turns out, Kang himself is a wanted man in South Korea for fraud. Talk about a double takedown.

Both fugitives are now headed straight to the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, under extra-tight security. Given their escape attempt, officials aren’t taking any chances this time.

Meanwhile, the BI isn’t just cracking down on the fugitives—three of its own employees were found to have helped Na escape. Two contractual workers have already been fired, while a permanent employee’s case was forwarded to the Department of Justice (DOJ). On Friday, DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed the third employee’s termination.

With the quick recapture of Na and the crackdown on those responsible for his escape, the BI is making it clear: They’re not messing around when it comes to upholding justice.
