After years of championing disaster resilience, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go proudly announced the signing of the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act or Republic Act No. 12076. This new law mandates the establishment of permanent, well-equipped evacuation centers across the country, ensuring safer and more dignified shelters for Filipinos during disasters.

“Matagal ko na pong ipinaglalaban ito,” Go shared during the signing ceremony at Malacañang Palace on December 6. He recounted witnessing the plight of evacuees crammed into schools, gymnasiums, and other makeshift shelters during his visits to disaster-stricken areas.

The law aims to solve recurring issues such as disrupted classes and unsanitary living conditions by providing evacuation centers with clean bathrooms, sleeping quarters, emergency supplies, and specific provisions for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.

Go emphasized the significance of these centers in preserving the health and dignity of displaced families.

Beyond Evacuation Centers: A Push for Disaster Resilience

The senator also renewed his call for the creation of a Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR), an agency focused solely on disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.

Go highlighted that the DDR would centralize efforts, preposition relief goods, and restore normalcy in communities immediately after disasters.

A Step Forward for Safer Communities

With climate change intensifying the frequency of natural calamities, the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act is a crucial step in protecting the lives and well-being of Filipinos.

The senator remains steadfast in his commitment to ensuring no Filipino is left vulnerable during emergencies.
