If you've been keeping an eye on the political scene, you might have noticed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s satisfaction ratings have seen a bit of a tumble. According to the latest Social Weather Survey conducted in December 2024, his net satisfaction rating has dropped to +19, a noticeable decline from +32 back in September.

So, what’s the story here? Let’s break it down.

The Numbers Game

In the survey, 51% of adult Filipinos said they were satisfied with President Marcos Jr.'s performance. Meanwhile, 16% were undecided, and 32% expressed dissatisfaction. These figures give us a net satisfaction rating of +19, which SWS classifies as "moderate." It’s a 13-point drop from the "good" rating of +32 he enjoyed just a few months ago.

Regional Variations

The ratings didn’t fall uniformly across the country. In Balance Luzon, things held steady with a "good" +38. However, in Mindanao, the President's net satisfaction took a nosedive, plummeting 34 points to a "poor" -18. Metro Manila and the Visayas also saw significant declines, dropping 16 and 13 points respectively.

Urban vs. Rural

Interestingly, President Marcos Jr. seems to have more fans in rural areas, where his net satisfaction is at a moderate +26, compared to +13 in urban areas. Still, both areas saw a 12-point drop since September.

Gender and Age Dynamics

When it comes to gender, both men and women are moderately satisfied, with ratings of +21 and +18, respectively. Age-wise, older Filipinos (55+) are the most satisfied, giving him a "good" +36, while the youth (18-24) are the least satisfied, with ratings barely scraping the "neutral" zone at +9.

Education Matters

Education level also plays a role in how people view the President. Those with elementary education gave him the highest marks, while college graduates were less impressed, with a neutral +4 rating.

The Bigger Picture

So, what could be causing this dip? Various factors might be at play—from public perception of his policies to the economic situation or recent events that have swayed public opinion. While a moderate +19 isn't catastrophic, it does indicate that there’s some room for improvement.

As we move forward, it will be interesting to see how these numbers shift and what steps the President might take to address public concerns. For now, all eyes are on the next quarter to see if there’s a rebound or further decline. Stay tuned!
