Marcos: No Economic Fallout From VP Duterte's Impeachment

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is unfazed by the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, saying it won't shake the Philippine economy.

"I doubt it very much," Marcos said on Thursday when asked if the impeachment could negatively impact the country’s economic standing. "Wala naman akong nakikitang magiging effect na ganon (I don’t see any impact like that)."

The President emphasized that investors are more concerned with long-term economic plans, structural reforms, and policy stability. "Yun lang naman ang tinitingnan ng investors (That’s the only thing investors look at), so I don’t think it will have any effect."

What’s the Impeachment About?

The impeachment complaint, signed by 215 members of the House of Representatives, is now headed for trial in the Senate. Among the serious allegations against VP Duterte are:

• A supposed assassination plot against Marcos, First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez

• Misuse of PhP612.5 million in confidential funds

• Bribery and corruption within the Department of Education (DepEd)

• Unexplained wealth and failure to disclose assets

• Alleged involvement in extrajudicial killings, destabilization, and insurrection

While the allegations are serious, the President remains confident that the government’s economic direction won’t be derailed. Investors, according to him, are more focused on the country’s long-term economic strategies rather than political noise.

With the Senate trial looming, the country watches closely—both for the political drama and any potential ripple effects.
