Fire safety isn’t just about putting out flames—it’s about making sure they don’t start in the first place. That’s why Meralco, led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, is stepping up once again, joining forces with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for this year’s Fire Prevention Month.

With the dry season increasing the risk of fires, the BFP has lined up various activities aimed at keeping communities safe and prepared. And Meralco is all in.

During a visit to the San Lazaro Fire Station in Manila, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga assured Manila Fire District Fire S/Supt. Aristotle Bañaga and his team of the company’s unwavering support. Beyond just words, Meralco has its own fire emergency response initiatives, including the Meralco Rescue Fire Sub-station—a dedicated facility that serves as a training hub for firefighters and rescue teams, while also providing a direct line to the BFP. This setup ensures power can be swiftly cut off in fire-affected areas, reducing risks and aiding emergency response.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to support the government in promoting public safety and protecting lives and properties in the communities we serve,” Zaldarriaga said. “Meralco stands alongside the BFP in championing fire prevention—not just this month, but all year round.”

For his part, Bañaga reaffirmed the BFP’s dedication to responding swiftly to emergencies while stressing the importance of fire safety awareness, especially during the hot, dry months when fire incidents tend to spike.

With Meralco and the BFP working hand in hand, the goal is clear: empower communities with the knowledge and tools to prevent fires before they start. Because when it comes to safety, prevention is always better than cure.
