Mild Earthquake Hits Near Calatagan, Batangas-No Damage Or Aftershocks Expected

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck near Calatagan, Batangas at 5:25 PM on April 1, 2025, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The tremor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 117 km, making it a relatively deep quake.

Where Was It Felt?

Although the earthquake wasn’t strong enough to cause damage, some residents in nearby provinces reported mild shaking:
• Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro – Intensity II
• Abra De Ilog, Occidental Mindoro – Intensity I
• Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro – Intensity I
• Cavite (Magallanes, Carmona, Tagaytay City) – Intensity I
• Abucay, Bataan – Intensity I

PHIVOLCS confirmed that no damage or aftershocks are expected from this event. However, they continue to monitor the situation for any developments.
