Monster Ship Out, Replacement In: Philippine Coast Guard Keeps Watch On New Chinese Vessel Near Zambales
Screengrab from PCG
The saga continues off the coast of Zambales. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has been busy tracking the movements of China's so-called "monster ship," formally known as the China Coast Guard vessel 5901. After keeping a close eye on it, the PCG confirmed that this massive ship has finally departed the coastline and is now about 90 nautical miles offshore.

But before anyone could breathe a sigh of relief, another ship, CCG-3103, has emerged on the radar. According to the PCG, this new vessel left Guangdong Province just yesterday and seems to be heading straight to where the monster ship was previously hanging out. Talk about a swift replacement!

As of 3 PM today, CCG-3103 was detected by Canada’s Dark Vessel Detection system, lurking about 60 nautical miles from Pandaquit, Zambales. This move hints that CCG-3103 might be the new guard in town, continuing the presence of Chinese vessels within the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

In response, PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan isn’t wasting any time. The PCG Islander has already been dispatched to the area and confirmed that CCG-3103 is indeed filling the void left by the monster ship. On top of that, the BRP Cabra is en route to monitor and challenge the new vessel's presence.

It’s clear the PCG is staying vigilant, ensuring that any unauthorized activity in the Philippines' waters is met with a watchful eye and a strong stance. As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on Zambales and the ongoing maritime maneuvers.
