NAIA 'Tanim-Bala' Scandal: DOTr Chief Fires 3 Security Personnel; Charges To Follow
Screengrab from DOTr
It looks like the infamous tanim-bala (bullet-planting) scheme is making headlines again, and this time, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) isn’t letting it slide.

During a press conference on Monday, March 10, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon announced the immediate dismissal of three airport screening personnel involved in a controversial incident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3. The case? Allegedly trying to pin a bullet possession charge on a mother and daughter who were set to fly to Vietnam.

What Happened?

On March 6, Ruth and Cai Adel were stopped by three security officers, who claimed to have found a bullet in their luggage. But after over five minutes of thorough inspection—surprise, surprise—no bullet was ever found.

Now, Ruth isn’t backing down. With the DOTr’s support, she plans to file charges against the involved personnel. Secretary Dizon assured the public that legal actions will be pursued following the ongoing investigation by authorities.

Cracking Down on Corruption

The tanim-bala scam, which terrorized passengers years ago, has resurfaced, but this time, the government is taking swift action. Dizon’s decision to fire the personnel involved sends a strong message: airport security should be about protecting passengers, not preying on them.

With legal action on the way, this case could be a turning point in making sure tanim-bala is finally buried for good.
