NAZARENO 2025: Devotees Flock To Quiapo, Finding Strength In Faith And Unity

The streets of Quiapo once again brimmed with the faithful as thousands gathered to honor the Feast of Jesus Nazareno. By the early hours of January 9, the Nazareno Operations Center reported a crowd of 16,700 at the Quiapo Church, a testament to the enduring devotion that characterizes this annual celebration.
As the festivities unfolded, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. shared a heartfelt message with the nation, emphasizing the importance of unity and compassion. “The Feast of Jesus Nazareno reminds us of the strength found in our shared faith,” Marcos stated, urging Filipinos to face life’s challenges with grace and solidarity.
The centerpiece of the celebration is the life-sized image of Jesus Nazareno, a symbol of strength and devotion for over 400 years. Each year, millions of devotees participate in the Traslacion, a procession that sees many walking barefoot through Manila’s streets, mirroring the journey of Jesus Christ carrying the cross.
Reflecting on the image’s significance, Marcos highlighted its powerful reminder of Jesus’ sacrifices. “It also speaks of God’s immense compassion, walking with us and hearing our prayers, especially in our time of need,” he added. The President called on Filipinos to extend kindness and empathy to those around them, embodying the spirit of the Nazarene in daily life.
As the andas carrying Jesus Nazareno began its journey from Quirino Grandstand around 4:40 a.m., the sense of camaraderie was palpable. The procession, a massive display of faith and unity, is expected to wind through Manila’s streets for hours before reaching Quiapo Church.
In the midst of the celebration, the Philippine Red Cross was on hand to provide medical assistance. By 7:30 a.m., 119 devotees had sought help for various ailments, with some requiring further medical treatment at nearby hospitals.
