Central Luzon is getting a major boost as the P7.8-billion North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Candaba 3rd Viaduct officially opens its lanes. The impressive five-kilometer bridge promises to not only ease travel but also spark business, trade, and tourism growth across the region.

During the grand inauguration in Pulilan, Bulacan, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. shared his optimism for what this new infrastructure means for the future.

“As we mark its completion, we show what can be achieved when we work together as one—fueled by our commitment to enriching connectivity, opportunity, and the brighter future that we continue to create together,” he said.

The newly-built viaduct is strategically positioned between the two existing Candaba bridges, providing much-needed relief from traffic congestion. With its state-of-the-art design and engineering, the viaduct ensures faster and safer travel for the more than 80,000 motorists who cross this route daily.

More than Just a Bridge

For decades, the Candaba Viaduct has been a lifeline, connecting Bulacan and Pampanga while linking Metro Manila to North Luzon. Originally opened in 1977 under the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., it started as a two-lane road but has since evolved to keep pace with increasing demand, including a three-lane upgrade in 2017.

Now, the 3rd Viaduct takes it to the next level, meeting the region’s growing needs and setting the stage for future development.

President Marcos Jr. emphasized that the project reflects the administration’s Build Better More program, aimed at uplifting communities and creating opportunities for economic progress.

“The 3rd Viaduct enhances the capacity of this expressway, reduces congestion, and ensures faster, more efficient travel,” he explained, adding that it lays the foundation for stronger countryside development by improving the flow of goods and people.

Boosting Business, Trade, and Tourism

With smoother connectivity, businesses in Central Luzon can expect faster transport of goods and materials, while tourists can look forward to easier access to popular destinations. The viaduct is not just a convenience—it’s a catalyst for regional development.

From Pampanga’s culinary scene to Bulacan’s growing industries, the improved infrastructure will bring new opportunities for investments and tourism activity.

A Project Built for the Future

Beyond its economic benefits, the viaduct also stands as a symbol of progress and resilience. Designed to withstand the challenges of nature and the test of time, it represents the government’s dedication to building for the long haul.

“Let us build infrastructure projects with future challenges in mind. Remain focused on pursuing initiatives that uplift lives, build communities, and meet the needs of the future we hope to build for our children and their children,” President Marcos urged during his speech.

The NLEX Candaba 3rd Viaduct, spearheaded by NLEX Corp. and Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., mirrors what the President called a “forward-looking and consistent” approach to nation-building.

What’s Next for Central Luzon?

With the Candaba Viaduct expansion now complete, motorists and businesses alike can enjoy smoother travel and greater opportunities. As this vital link continues to evolve, Central Luzon is poised to thrive—one kilometer, one project, and one connection at a time.

For now, the NLEX Candaba 3rd Viaduct isn’t just a bridge; it’s a pathway to a brighter, more connected future.
