No, The VP's Security Team Wasn't Disbanded - It Was Just Reorganized, Says AFP

In case you’ve seen some posts online claiming that the Vice President’s security team was scrapped—hold up. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is setting the record straight: the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) was not disbanded. It was reorganized, and there’s a big difference.

In a statement, the AFP clarified that the change is part of their streamlining efforts that took effect in February 2025 and was approved by the Department of National Defense. The VPSPG has now been integrated into the AFP Security and Protection Group (AFPSPG) to unify all security and protection duties under one umbrella. According to the AFP, this move actually strengthens—not weakens—the Vice President’s security.

And just so you know, the VPSPG itself was only created in June 2022. Before that, Vice Presidents were protected by a unit called the Security and Protection Battalion under AFP’s General Headquarters. So, technically speaking, this “reorganization” is just a return to a more integrated system, only this time with more structure and focus on efficiency.

The AFP is also urging the public not to fall for—or spread—misinformation. Instead of stirring the pot, they’re asking everyone to use social media and other platforms to promote understanding and unity.

Bottom line? The Vice President is still fully protected, and the AFP assures everyone that they remain committed to securing all key officials of the government. So let’s not jump to conclusions, shall we?
