Para Sa Bayan: Cong. Pantaleon Alvarez Leads Corruption Case Against Lawmakers Over GAA 2025

Former Speaker of the House and Davao del Norte representative Pantaleon "Bebot" Alvarez, along with lawyers Ferdinand Topacio, Jimmy Bondoc, and other complainants, filed a case at the Ombudsman against several lawmakers over alleged anomalies in the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA). But before heading inside, they took a moment to pray at the Ombudsman lobby—perhaps seeking strength for what could be a tough and risky battle ahead.

The Allegations: P241 Billion in "Blank Spaces"

According to Alvarez, the heart of the complaint lies in the alleged violations of the Revised Penal Code and the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. The biggest red flag? A jaw-dropping Php 241 billion reportedly inserted into the national budget without undergoing proper ratification in Congress. What were once blank spaces in the Bicameral Report suddenly transformed into massive allocations—raising serious questions about transparency and accountability.

“Bugbog at Lugi ang Pilipino”

Alvarez made it clear that this isn’t just about technicalities—it’s about the Filipino people being shortchanged. He lamented the many issues plaguing the country, emphasizing that the public has already endured enough. His message? It’s time for a fight.

A Dangerous Road Ahead

The complaint names big and influential figures, making this a high-stakes battle. Filing the case is just the beginning—ensuring justice is served will be an uphill climb. That’s why Alvarez and his group are calling on the public for support, not just in spirit but through prayers as well.

As the case moves forward, the question remains: Will accountability finally be served, or will this be another case lost in the system? One thing is certain—this fight is far from over.
