President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personally distributed more than PhP20 million in financial assistance on Thursday to farmers and fisherfolk grappling with the effects of the El Niño phenomenon in the provinces of Tawi-Tawi and Basilan.

During the distribution, President Marcos presented PhP10 million checks to each of the respective provincial governors, Yshmael Sali of Tawi-Tawi and Hadjiman Salliman-Hataman of Basilan, while individual farmers and fishermen received PhP10,000 each.

In his address at the aid distribution event, President Marcos highlighted that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) had been declared under a state of calamity due to El Niño's impact. He assured the affected communities of the government's efforts to mitigate the severity of the situation on their daily lives.

"Saksi ako sa sipag at galing ninyo. Kaya asahan ninyong patuloy kaming magsisikap upang maibigay sa inyo ang nararapat na serbisyo at alaga upang makamit ninyo ang inyong mga pangarap sa buhay," President Marcos stated, acknowledging the resilience and hard work of the people in the affected regions.

Accompanied by around 80 members of the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, President Marcos also participated in the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair, a program aimed at providing frontline services and aid to marginalized communities across the nation.

Expressing gratitude to farmers, fisherfolk, and their families for their contributions to the country's food security, President Marcos emphasized the government's commitment to supporting their needs.

Additionally, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed PhP10,000 to each of the 10,000 beneficiaries, comprising farmers, fisherfolk, and their families. Meanwhile, the Office of the House Speaker distributed five kilograms of rice to each attendee, further extending assistance to those in need.

Several government agencies, including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and Department of Agriculture (DA), actively participated in the event, underscoring a collaborative effort to address the challenges faced by the affected communities.
