PCG And BFAR Team Up To Protect Filipino Fishermen In Bajo De Masinloc

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), together with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), hit the waters of Bajo de Masinloc once again, proving they’ve got the backs of Filipino fishermen navigating the area.

In their routine patrol, PCG vessels BRP Teresa Magbanua and BRP Cabra didn’t just keep watch—they also brought essential food packs and groceries for our hardworking fisherfolk. Around 40 Filipino fishing boats were busy doing what they do best: providing for their families and communities.

Meanwhile, BFAR kept a close eye from above with their patrol aircraft, monitoring the situation. During the operation, they spotted two China Coast Guard vessels (3106 and 3104) loitering just outside the shoal, along with seven Chinese Maritime Militia ships hanging around nearby. Inside the shoal, two more militia vessels were keeping watch on access points, while a People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) ship, bow number 552, was observed about 50 nautical miles off the Zambales coast.

Despite the presence of foreign vessels, the PCG and BFAR remain steadfast in their mission to ensure Filipino fishermen can continue their livelihood safely. By keeping the waters of the West Philippine Sea under routine surveillance, the two agencies are not only promoting maritime security but also sending a clear message: our fisherfolk’s rights and safety come first.

The collaboration between PCG and BFAR is a reassuring reminder for those who depend on these waters—someone’s looking out for them, and peaceful, secure seas remain the ultimate goal.
