PNP-HPG Speaks Out On Viral EDSA Busway Incident: 'No Intent To Undermine Authority'

The Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) is setting the record straight regarding a recent viral incident involving two HPG riders leading a convoy through the EDSA busway. The issue has sparked widespread discussion online, with some dragging the name of PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil into the controversy—something the agency firmly denies.

In an official statement, the PNP-HPG clarified that there was no intent to overstep the authority of the Department of Transportation’s Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) or dictate its enforcement actions. The now-viral video—reportedly recorded without permission—captured an HPG officer suggesting ways to ease rush hour congestion. However, the agency emphasized that these were the officer’s personal opinions and do not reflect HPG’s official position.

"This was an unfortunate and isolated incident," the statement read, adding that stricter measures are being put in place to prevent similar occurrences. The PNP-HPG also reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining professionalism, integrity, and order on the roads.

As the online discussion continues, the agency is urging the public to remain fair in assessing the situation, assuring that it does not condone any actions that might tarnish its credibility or that of its leadership.
