The Philippine National Police (PNP) is in mourning following the tragic passing of Police Colonel Pergentino N. Malabed, who lost his life in a devastating midair collision near Washington, D.C.

PCOL Malabed, the Chief of the Supply Management Division, was on official duty when the American Airlines flight he was aboard collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter. The crash sent both aircraft into the Potomac River late Wednesday night.

In an official statement, the PNP expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a dedicated officer who served with honor and integrity throughout his career. "His untimely passing is a profound loss not only to the organization but to the nation he served," the PNP said, adding that they will provide full support to his bereaved family and loved ones during this difficult time.

A Committed Public Servant

PCOL Malabed was known for his dedication to the police force and his unwavering commitment to public service. He played a vital role in ensuring the efficient management of police supplies, a responsibility that directly impacted the PNP's operational readiness. His colleagues remember him as a hardworking and principled officer, always willing to go the extra mile for his duty.

Investigation Underway

Authorities in the U.S. have launched a full investigation into the incident, led by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The U.S. Army and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are also involved in determining the cause of the collision. "Our top priority is to assist in recovery efforts while fully cooperating with investigative agencies," said Maj. Gen. Trevor J. Bredenkamp of the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region.

Honoring His Legacy

As the PNP and the nation grieve this loss, they also take this moment to honor PCOL Malabed’s contributions to law enforcement. His service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
The PNP calls on the public to keep PCOL Malabed’s family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this painful time. May he rest in peace.
