A massive 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Myanmar early Friday morning (March 28, 2025, UTC), causing major damage across several regions, including Mandalay, Sagaing, Naypyitaw, Bago, and Southern Shan. The quake struck at 6:20 AM UTC with a depth of 10 kilometers, making its impact even more intense.

Widespread Damage and Emergency Response

Reports are pouring in about severe structural damage in affected areas, with buildings collapsing and infrastructure suffering significant impacts. The Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) has jumped into action, providing first aid and pre-hospital care, prioritizing life-saving efforts, and conducting damage assessments.

Meanwhile, an emergency response team has already been deployed to Mandalay, one of the hardest-hit areas. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is now fully active, coordinating relief efforts and mobilizing resources to assist those affected.

What’s Next?

With such a strong earthquake, aftershocks are likely, and authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and follow safety protocols. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but humanitarian aid efforts are in full swing.
