PVL Play-In Drama: Six Teams, Two Quarterfinal Spots, And One Wild Ride

The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference is heating up as six teams gear up for a no-holds-barred Play-In tournament, all fighting for the last two quarterfinal slots. With Cignal and Chery Tiggo hoping to bounce back from disappointing losses, and four other squads equally determined to shake things up, expect a rollercoaster of intense matchups at the Philsports Arena starting this Thursday.

Cignal’s Redemption Mission

Cignal, ranked third after the preliminaries, was riding high—until they got blindsided by No. 10 seed Galeries Tower in a shocking upset. The loss exposed some cracks in their roster, especially with key players sidelined. Despite that, rookie Ishie Lalongisip has stepped up, while Vanie Gandler and Jackie Acuña continue to hold the fort. But against a hungry Capital1 squad, the HD Spikers can’t afford another misstep.

Capital1 may have lost to Petro Gazz in the qualifiers, but under the guidance of Coach Roger Gorayeb, this squad isn’t backing down. With the likes of Jorelle Singh, Heather Guino-o, and playmaker Iris Tolenada leading the charge, the Solar Spikers are ready to prove they belong.

Chery Tiggo’s Battle for Survival

On the other side, Chery Tiggo is still reeling from a tough loss to Choco Mucho. But with a lineup featuring Ara Galang, Aby Maraño, and setter Jasmine Nabor, the Crossovers have the tools to turn things around.

However, standing in their way is an unpredictable Nxled Chameleons squad. With Chiara Permentilla, EJ Laure, and Lycha Ebon in their arsenal, the Chameleons are more than capable of pulling off an upset. Chery Tiggo needs to bring its A-game—anything less could send them packing.

The Road to the Quarterfinals

Both pools will battle it out in a single round-robin format, with the top teams advancing to the quarterfinals. The stakes? A shot at powerhouse teams like Creamline and Petro Gazz in a best-of-three showdown.

Meanwhile, Akari faces Galeries Tower, while Choco Mucho locks horns with PLDT in the other quarterfinal matchups.

With fierce competition and everything on the line, this Play-In tournament is shaping up to be a thriller. Every set, every rally, and every point will count. Get ready for a PVL showdown where anything can happen—and probably will.
