Typhoon Marce may have exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but it has certainly left its mark in parts of northern Luzon. In Buguey, Cagayan, nearly the entire roof of the classrooms at Buguey North Central School (BNCS) was blown away by the powerful winds that came with the storm.

The local government of Buguey shared images showing the damage: peeled-off sheets of roofing, scattered debris, and evidence of the storm’s intensity. According to the latest Tropical Cyclone Bulletin, Typhoon Marce has officially exited PAR as of 5:00 PM today, November 8, 2024. However, as cleanup begins, communities are faced with the challenge of rebuilding and addressing the destruction left behind.

School authorities and local officials are already coordinating efforts to assess the damage and initiate repairs, but they’re also calling for support to ensure that students and staff can safely return to their classrooms soon.

Typhoon Marce may be gone, but its impact will be felt for some time, particularly for those directly hit in Cagayan.
