Looks like Samar just can’t catch a break. Just a day after experiencing a magnitude 5.3 earthquake, the province was hit again—this time with a magnitude 4.5 tremor.

Back-to-Back Earthquakes

At exactly 4:55 PM today (February 15, 2025), a tectonic earthquake struck 43 km northeast of Hernani, Eastern Samar, at a shallow depth of 10 km. While no damage has been reported, residents are on edge, especially after last night’s stronger magnitude 5.3 quake that was felt in multiple towns across Eastern Samar and even parts of Leyte and Northern Samar.

What’s Going On?

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) confirmed that these quakes were tectonic in origin, meaning they were caused by movements along fault lines. Given the recent activity, aftershocks are expected, so people in affected areas should stay alert.

Stay Safe, Eastern Samar

With two significant quakes in less than 24 hours, it’s a reminder to always be prepared. If you’re in the area, check your surroundings, secure heavy objects, and have an emergency kit ready—just in case.
