For 55 years, SEAMEO INNOTECH has been at the heart of educational innovation in Southeast Asia, shaping the way students learn and teachers teach. This milestone anniversary wasn’t just a celebration—it was a testament to the organization’s lasting impact on the region’s education system.

A Legacy of Innovation

Since its establishment, SEAMEO INNOTECH has been pushing the boundaries of education, making learning more inclusive and effective. From aligning the K-12 curriculum to developing the Alternative Learning System (ALS) 2.0, the organization has played a crucial role in transforming education for millions.

Leading the celebration was SEAMEO INNOTECH Centre Director Dr. Leonor Magtolis-Briones, who reflected on the organization’s journey and its future. “With a steadfast commitment to its mission, the Center continues to shape the future of education in Southeast Asia and beyond. As we move forward with artificial intelligence and new advancements in education, we also champion the harmony of science, technology, and the humanities to promote human-centered solutions in teaching, learning, and research,” she shared.

Under Dr. Briones’ leadership, the Center has launched game-changing initiatives like a competency framework for teachers, international youth-led conferences, and a national AI conference. It even established its own art gallery, emphasizing the role of creativity in education. These efforts have earned SEAMEO INNOTECH an impressive 4.6 satisfaction rating in its annual client survey—proof that its work is making a real difference.

Honoring the Impact

The anniversary event brought together key figures in education and government to recognize SEAMEO INNOTECH’s contributions. Dr. Gina Gonong, Undersecretary for Curriculum and Teaching at the Department of Education, highlighted the organization's massive influence. “SEAMEO INNOTECH has trained over 181,000 educators in the last five years alone, equipping them with tools to thrive in an ever-changing world,” she noted.

Congressman Ron Salo also praised the institution’s far-reaching impact, saying, “This institution’s impact extends beyond classrooms. It has empowered learners, strengthened communities, and inspired collaboration across nations. SEAMEO INNOTECH’s legacy is a testament to what is possible when we act collectively with bold vision.”

Looking Ahead

The future is bright for SEAMEO INNOTECH, with exciting projects on the horizon. This year, the organization is set to host an international conference on artificial intelligence, bringing together educators, experts, and policymakers to explore AI’s role in education. With its commitment to innovation and collaboration, SEAMEO INNOTECH is poised to continue transforming learning across Southeast Asia for years to come.
