Sen. Bong Go Breaks Silence: Defends Against POGO-Drug War Allegations

Senator Bong Go has come out swinging in response to recent claims connecting him to the POGO-drug war narrative, calling out what he describes as a politically motivated attempt to tarnish his reputation.

In a recent statement, Go addressed the controversy surrounding his name being linked to illegal drug activities and the POGO sector. He pointed out that Jovie Espenido, who had made claims about his involvement, admitted during a House of Representatives hearing that he lacked direct evidence connecting Go to these allegations. Espenido's statements, according to Go, were merely hearsay and yet somehow ended up in his affidavit.

"I can categorically say that I have never been involved in any POGO-related activities or drug war reward systems," Go emphasized. He clarified that during his time as Special Assistant to the President and later as a senator, he had no hand in managing funds related to the drug war or any transactions from POGO.

Go underscored that POGO and the war on drugs led by former President Rodrigo Duterte are unrelated. He noted that Duterte's anti-drug campaign began in 2016, well before POGO operations became prevalent. "POGO has nothing to do with the administration of FPRRD," he said firmly.

The senator also expressed his ongoing support for law enforcement, stating that any assistance provided to the police came from legitimate government funds. He reiterated his opposition to POGO if it jeopardizes national peace and order.

He concluded by urging fellow lawmakers to be discerning in their investigations, reminding them that their duty is to uncover the truth and safeguard the rights of every Filipino—not to engage in character assassination based on unfounded rumors. "I will not hesitate to take legal action to protect my name from malicious attacks," Go warned.
