It was a day of pride and celebration at Malacañang on Wednesday, as President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos warmly welcomed ‘The Voice’ USA Season 26 Grand Champion, Sofronio Vasquez. The talented singer, who made history as the first Filipino and Asian to win the coveted title, was honored for bringing immense pride to the nation.

With smiles and heartfelt words, the President expressed his gratitude. “Thank you sa iyo dahil pinasikat mo naman ‘yung Pilipino. Sikat na naman tayo dahil sa ginawa mo,” he shared, clearly beaming with pride.

The First Lady, equally proud, added, “You made us proud,” while congratulating Vasquez on his impressive achievement.

In a special moment, Vasquez serenaded the First Couple with their favorite song, “Imagine” by The Beatles, followed by his show-stopping rendition of “A Million Dreams,” the very performance that clinched his victory on the international stage.
Also present was President Marcos’ sister, Irene, along with other high-ranking officials, including Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Cesar Chavez and Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Gracia Frasco. The atmosphere was filled with warmth as Vasquez, accompanied by his family, received recognition for his incredible journey.

President Marcos praised not only Vasquez’s talent but also his character. “You’re so generous. Hindi ka nang-aagaw ng eksena. It’s all about the music, it’s not about you. You’re humble. It’s not about making pasikat, it’s about making the music sound good,” he said, highlighting the singer’s genuine love for his craft.

The 33-year-old champion, a Doctor of Dental Medicine graduate from Ozamiz City, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the recognition. “Laking tulong po talaga ng recognition,” he said, clearly moved by the warm reception.

This historic win not only marks a milestone in Vasquez’s career but also reinforces the global talent of Filipinos. His victory is a testament to the rich musical heritage of the Philippines and a source of inspiration for aspiring artists nationwide.
