South Korea is gripped by political drama as President Yoon Suk Yeol declared emergency martial law on Tuesday, accusing opposition forces of “anti-state activities plotting rebellion.”

In a televised address, Yoon justified the controversial move, saying, “The martial law is aimed at eradicating pro-North Korean forces and to protect the constitutional order of freedom.”

The declaration follows escalating tensions in parliament, where the opposition Democratic Party pushed through a reduced budget bill and filed impeachment motions targeting a state auditor and the chief prosecutor.

The sudden announcement has sparked fierce debate across the nation. Is this a necessary step to protect national security, or a power grab in disguise? The unfolding situation promises to keep South Korea—and the world—on edge.
