Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez assured the country’s prosecutors that the House of Representatives is committed to strengthening the National Prosecution Service (NPS). Speaking at the 34th national convention of the Prosecutors’ League of the Philippines, he highlighted the critical role of prosecutors in upholding justice—often working behind the scenes but making a huge impact on society.

“You carry out your mission away from the spotlight, but your work lights the way for a more just society,” Romualdez said. “You stand up for the rule of law and, more importantly, for the dignity of every Filipino.”

Romualdez, a UP Law graduate, emphasized that prosecutors deserve not just recognition but real, tangible support. Under his leadership, the House passed the Survivorship Law for Prosecutors, ensuring that the families of prosecutors receive the same benefits as other members of the justice system.

And that’s just the beginning.

The House is now pushing for hazard pay for public prosecutors, recognizing the risks they face when handling cases involving drug syndicates, terrorism, human trafficking, and corruption. Additionally, House Bill No. 117, filed by Rep. Roy Loyola, aims to align prosecutors’ salaries and benefits with those of the judiciary—a move Romualdez describes as a matter of fairness and respect.

Beyond salary adjustments, lawmakers are also reviewing improvements in retirement benefits, security assistance, and logistical support for prosecutors. “These are not favors. These are investments in the people who hold the justice system together,” Romualdez stressed.

He also reassured prosecutors that they are not forgotten. “You didn’t enter this profession for the limelight. You do this because you believe in the law and in justice. But let me say this clearly: under our watch, you will no longer be the unsung heroes of the justice system.”

With the House’s full support, Romualdez vowed to push forward legislation and policies that will strengthen the judiciary, protect prosecutors, and ensure that justice remains the pillar of a stronger Philippines.
