Speaker Romualdez Praises SP Chiz For Senate's Impeachment Prep; Says House Prosecutors Are Ready To Go

Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez has nothing but praise for Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero and the Senate’s meticulous preparations ahead of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial set for June.
In a statement on Wednesday, Romualdez acknowledged the Senate’s commitment to due process, emphasizing the importance of a fair and impartial trial. “The Senate has shown its dedication to upholding the rule of law. I extend my deepest gratitude to Senate President Escudero and the entire Senate for their readiness and professionalism in handling this historic proceeding,” he said.
With the Articles of Impeachment already transmitted, Romualdez assured the public that the House prosecution team is locked and loaded. “Our prosecution panel is ready to present the case as soon as the impeachment court is convened. We trust the Senate to carry out its constitutional duty and proceed without unnecessary delays.”
His remarks followed a visit by House Secretary General Reginald “Reggie” Velasco and other House officials to the Senate, where they inspected facilities designated for the House prosecutors. Velasco’s team toured the Senate session hall—where the trial will unfold—and the Sen. Arturo M. Tolentino Room, which will serve as the prosecution team’s workspace.
Romualdez underscored the importance of coordination between the two chambers of Congress to ensure a smooth trial. “The Senate, led by Senate President Escudero, has taken decisive steps to make sure everything is in place. This level of preparation is crucial in upholding our democratic processes.”
He also assured the public that the impeachment process will be conducted with the highest level of integrity and impartiality. “This is about strengthening our democratic institutions and ensuring accountability. The world is watching, and we must show that the Philippines is firmly committed to justice and the rule of law.”
With the impeachment trial fast approaching, Romualdez reiterated the House’s readiness to work closely with the Senate to ensure a fair, transparent, and credible proceeding. “Our commitment is to the Filipino people and to upholding the integrity of our democracy,” he concluded.
