'Step Down Or Face Impeachment!' DP Slams President Yoon Over Martial Law Declaration

The political drama in South Korea has taken a sharp turn. The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) is calling for President Yoon Suk Yeol’s immediate resignation after his surprise declaration of martial law late Tuesday. And if he doesn’t? They’re promising to launch impeachment proceedings right away.

During an emergency meeting at the National Assembly, the DP didn’t mince words, accusing Yoon of trampling on the Constitution.

“Yoon's declaration of martial law is a clear violation of the Constitution,” the DP’s resolution read, emphasizing that the president ignored all the legal requirements for such a drastic move.

Their statement wasn’t just about the law—it carried heavy accusations. “This is a serious act of rebellion and a perfect reason for impeachment,” the DP declared.

This all started with a surprise televised address from Yoon, where he announced "emergency" martial law, blaming the opposition for “paralyzing” the government and engaging in what he called “anti-state” activities.

Now, with martial law lifted after the National Assembly voted it down, the question looms: Will Yoon step down, or will South Korea see a heated impeachment battle? One thing’s for sure—this political storm is far from over.
