Supreme Court Responds To Duterte And Dela Rosa's Petition - Here's What You Need To Know

The Supreme Court (SC) wasted no time in addressing the legal moves of former President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Ronald Dela Rosa. On March 11, 2025, at exactly 4:27 p.m., the SC received their Petition for Certiorari and Prohibition—essentially challenging certain actions of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and other officials.
What’s in the Petition?
Duterte and Dela Rosa were hoping for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) or an injunction to stop whatever government action they were contesting. The SC acted swiftly, raffling the case to a Member-in-Charge and posting it on their official website. Later that night, at 11:17 p.m., the SC also noted a Very Urgent Manifestation from the petitioners, doubling down on their request for a TRO.
The Supreme Court’s Decision (So Far)
After a virtual deliberation, the SC decided not to issue a TRO just yet. The court found that the petitioners had not established a “clear and unmistakable right” to justify immediate relief. However, the battle isn’t over—the SC has ordered the respondents to submit their comments within 10 days.
