Taylor Swift has done it again! The global pop icon has been crowned IFPI’s Global Recording Artist of the Year 2024—marking her fifth win and third consecutive year at the top.

In a year filled with record-breaking achievements, Swift also dominated four major IFPI charts, thanks to the massive success of her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, released in April 2024. She topped the Global Album Chart, Global Vinyl Album Chart, Global Streaming Album Chart, and Global Album Sales Chart, proving yet again that her music resonates across generations.

A Swift Surge Across the Charts

Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour fueled a streaming explosion, with fans revisiting her entire discography. Her re-recorded albums and past hits soared in popularity, leading to a remarkable feat—five of her albums (1989 (Taylor’s Version), Midnights, folklore, evermore, and Lover) all landed in IFPI’s 2024 Global Vinyl Album Chart Top 20.

“We are immensely proud to award the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Award to Taylor Swift for the fifth time, as she continues to redefine the limits of global success,” said Victoria Oakley, CEO of IFPI. “This has been a huge year for Taylor, and it has been incredible to see the extent to which fans all over the world are connecting with her superb catalogue of music.”

Breakthrough Stars & Genre Trends

2024 was also a big year for rising artists. Zach Bryan and Sabrina Carpenter made their debut in the Top 10 of the Global Recording Artist Chart, while Noah Kahan, Benson Boone, Chappell Roan, and Teddy Swims made waves in the Global Streaming Album Chart.

Meanwhile, country music surged in global popularity, with artists like Morgan Wallen, Beyoncé, Post Malone, and Zach Bryan making significant chart appearances. K-pop continued to dominate physical album sales, while Asian artists like Zhou Shen and Snow Man made their mark on the Global Album Sales Chart.

The Global Vinyl Album Chart also showcased a shift in the demographics of vinyl collectors—highlighting a growing audience for female-led, newly released albums, including Billie Eilish’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and Charli XCX’s BRAT.

What’s Next?

IFPI will reveal the Global Single Award winner and Global Singles Chart results later this week—adding another exciting chapter to 2024’s music landscape.
