TNT Reclaims The Edge In Thriller, Moves Up 2-1 In Finals

TNT Tropang Giga is back in control. After falling short in the clutch last time, they made sure to flip the script on Wednesday night, pulling off a nail-biting 87-85 win over Barangay Ginebra to take a 2-1 lead in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals at the PhilSports Arena.

It wasn’t easy. The Gin Kings, true to their never-say-die spirit, battled on even after losing Justin Brownlee to injury with 6:42 left in the third quarter. But when it mattered most, TNT found their heroes in Rey Nambatac and Glenn Khobuntin.

“I told the players we’re going to see the best of Ginebra even without Justin. We had to be at our best,” TNT coach Chot Reyes said. “When they went up by three, we didn’t panic—that was the turning point.”

Nambatac and Khobuntin Step Up

With the game tied at 82, TNT delivered in the clutch. Nambatac drained a huge and-one play, then Khobuntin broke free for a layup, pushing the Tropang Giga ahead 87-82.

Nambatac was on fire, dropping a team-high 24 points, including five three-pointers, while also dishing out seven assists and grabbing five boards. It was easily his best performance in the pros, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson was everywhere, flirting with a triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. But beyond the numbers, his energy and defense were game-changers—especially in the closing moments.

A crucial defensive stop by Kelly Williams forced RJ Abarrientos into a costly turnover, leading to a fastbreak bucket from Khobuntin that ultimately sealed the deal for TNT.

Brownlee’s Injury a Big Question Mark

Brownlee, who had 19 points, six assists, and four rebounds before exiting, was rushed to the hospital with a suspected dislocated right thumb. His status for Game 4 at the Ynares Sports Center on Friday is now in serious doubt—a massive concern for Ginebra as they try to even the series.

Despite Scottie Thompson knocking down a clutch three to cut the deficit to two with 14.4 seconds left, Ginebra ran out of time. TNT held on, reclaiming the driver’s seat in this intense finals showdown.

With momentum back on their side, the Tropang Giga will now look to tighten their grip on the championship series. But don’t count Ginebra out just yet—they’ve made a career out of comebacks.

Game 4 is shaping up to be another must-watch battle.
