TNT Tropang Giga Blaze Past NLEX To Secure Semis Spot

The TNT Tropang Giga have done it again. Coming off a solid win on Sunday, the Tropang Giga kept the momentum rolling with a dominant 125-96 victory over the NLEX Road Warriors, clinching a spot in the PBA Governors' Cup semifinals at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Tuesday night.

With a confident display from start to finish, TNT wrapped up the best-of-five series, 3-1, sending NLEX packing. The team’s chemistry and focus were on full display as Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and his crew fired on all cylinders, leaving no doubt as to who’s boss.

Right from the get-go, TNT meant business. They jumped to a 10-point lead in the opening quarter, then opened the second with an 11-0 run, putting NLEX in a deep hole they couldn’t climb out of. By halftime, it was clear who would be marching on to the next round.

For TNT coach Chot Reyes, it’s all about sticking to the basics and executing the game plan. “In basketball, it's about playing defense and putting the ball in the hoop. In the quarterfinals, we finally hit some shots,” Reyes said, reflecting on his team’s successful run.

Now, with NLEX out of the picture, the Tropang Giga have a few days to rest and strategize as they await the winner of the Rain or Shine-Magnolia knockout Game 5. Whichever team emerges victorious will set up a best-of-seven semifinal series against TNT.

Reyes knows it won’t be a walk in the park, though. “Whichever we play will be a much different team, and it will be a test for our flexibility and adaptability. It will be a big test for our defense,” he shared.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, TNT’s driving force, looks ready for the challenge. The reigning Best Import dropped 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the charge. He got plenty of help from his teammates, with Rey Nambatac (19 points), RR Pogoy (18), Calvin Oftana (11), and Glenn Khobuntin (11) stepping up to contribute in the blowout win.

TNT’s offensive efficiency was off the charts, shooting 57.5% from the field, including an eye-popping 78% from two-point territory. The Road Warriors just couldn’t keep up, as TNT held them under 100 points again, similar to the 109-91 rout in the previous match.

With the series now behind them, the Tropang Giga will shift their focus to the semis. Will they continue their impressive run and defend their crown? That’s a question Hollis-Jefferson and the rest of the squad seem determined to answer—one big play at a time.
