Trust in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte is slipping, according to the latest Stratbase-SWS January 2025 Pre-Election Survey. While both remain widely known figures in Philippine politics, their trust ratings have been on a steady decline since mid-2024.

Survey at a Glance

Conducted from January 17-20, 2025, the survey included 1,800 registered voters nationwide, using face-to-face interviews. The results offer insight into how public perception of the two leaders has changed over time.

Marcos Jr.: Trust Ratings on a Downward Slope

President Marcos Jr.'s trust rating has dropped from 64% in July 2024 to just 50% in January 2025. Those expressing “little trust” in him have steadily increased, reaching 26% in the latest survey.

The decline is especially notable in Mindanao, where his trust rating fell from 50% in July 2024 to just 37% in January 2025, leaving him with a net trust rating of only +1—a stark contrast to his stronger numbers in other regions.

Sara Duterte: From Highs to Lows

Vice President Sara Duterte, once riding on strong public confidence, is seeing an even sharper dip. Her trust rating went from 65% in July 2024 to 49% in January 2025, with those expressing “little trust” rising to 30%.

Her numbers in Metro Manila and Balance Luzon have turned negative, with net trust ratings of -3 and -8, respectively. However, she remains very strong in Mindanao, where she still holds a +67 net trust rating, though slightly down from previous months.

What’s Causing the Decline?

Several factors could be influencing the dip in trust ratings:

• Economic concerns – Rising prices and economic challenges may be affecting public confidence.

• Political controversies – Recent government decisions and policies might not be sitting well with voters.

• Upcoming elections – As political dynamics shift, voter sentiment may be changing ahead of the next polls.

While Marcos Jr. and Duterte still maintain high name recognition, the drop in trust ratings suggests they may have work to do if they want to regain public confidence.
