Despite maintaining a composed front, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero faces a growing challenge as efforts to replace him as Senate President gain traction.

While several names have surfaced in the media as potential candidates, one name has repeatedly emerged from multiple sources within Advocates Philippines: Senator Loren Legarda.

According to information provided to us, Senator Legarda is reportedly at the forefront of a plot to unseat Escudero, who only took over the Senate presidency in May. However, sources within the Senate suggest that Legarda has struggled to secure enough support to make the move viable.

For her part, Legarda has categorically denied any involvement in such a plot.

Escudero, on the other hand, has refrained from commenting on the rumors, dismissing them as mere speculation. Nevertheless, he acknowledges the reality of Senate leadership: it ultimately depends on the will of the majority, and a change in leadership could happen at any time while Congress is in session.
