Big changes are coming to the Department of Transportation (DOTr)! President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Vivencio "Vince" Dizon as the country’s next transportation secretary, replacing Jaime Bautista, who stepped down because of health reasons.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin made the announcement on Thursday, confirming that Dizon will officially assume the role on February 21, 2025. However, he’s already been given the green light by Malacañang to start the transition process alongside Bautista’s team.

Who is Vince Dizon?

If his name sounds familiar, that’s because Dizon has been a key figure in several high-profile government projects. He was at the helm of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) during the Duterte administration, playing a big role in the “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure push. On top of that, he served as a presidential adviser on flagship programs and projects, helping oversee major government initiatives.

During the pandemic, Dizon took on another critical role as the country’s chief testing czar and deputy chief implementer of the National Action Plan Against Covid-19. He was at the forefront of the government’s efforts to boost testing, tracing, and treatment strategies.

What’s Next for the DOTr?

With his extensive background in infrastructure and governance, all eyes are now on how Dizon will steer the DOTr. Will he continue the momentum on ongoing transport projects? Will he bring fresh ideas to improve public transport and road safety? One thing’s for sure—his appointment signals continuity and experience in handling large-scale government programs.

As Dizon prepares to take the wheel at the DOTr, commuters and industry stakeholders will be watching closely to see what’s in store for the country’s transportation landscape.
