VP Sara Duterte Faces Impeachment Complaints Head-On: 'It's Time To Answer The Allegations'

Vice President Sara Duterte has welcomed the filing of two impeachment complaints against her, saying it’s an opportunity to directly address the accusations against her without dragging others into the issue.

“I welcome that the impeachment case has finally been filed — something they’ve been planning to do since last year. It’s okay because I’m the only one being targeted here, I’m the only one being investigated, and I’m the only one being attacked. This way, my team at the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and my former colleagues at the Department of Education (DepEd) are no longer involved,” VP Sara said.

The Complaints and Allegations

The grounds for the impeachment include questions surrounding the use of confidential funds by the OVP and DepEd, as well as alleged threats made by VP Sara against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Despite President Marcos previously dismissing the allegations, the complaint pushed through. It’s worth noting that the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) also expressed support for the administration and its stance on the matter.

“I understand that the INC wants peace for our country because they know that peace will lead to progress. I also understand their support for the Office of the President because, in the end, that’s what every Filipino wants — peace and continuous progress for our nation,” VP Sara added.

Absence from NBI Investigation

The impeachment filing comes shortly after VP Sara’s absence from an NBI investigation last November 29 regarding the alleged threats. When asked about attending the next hearing scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, the Vice President said she still wouldn’t be able to make it.

“My lawyers explained that it’s not mandatory to appear personally in the NBI investigation. I can just submit a letter or affidavit. Secondly, we already have Thanksgiving activities scheduled for December 11. And third, after those activities, I’m heading back to Davao City to attend my uncle’s funeral,” she clarified.

Moving Forward

While VP Sara is facing serious accusations, she remains firm and resolute in addressing them directly. “Now we can finally put to rest whatever they are accusing me of,” she said confidently.

With the impeachment process underway, it remains to be seen how these developments will unfold and what impact they’ll have on the political landscape moving forward.
