After more than a year of uncertainty and longing, the nation is finally celebrating the safe release of 17 Filipino seafarers who had been held captive in Yemen. Thanks to the unwavering efforts of the Philippine government and the mediation by the Sultanate of Oman, these brave individuals are now free and on their way to reuniting with their loved ones.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced this joyful development, expressing gratitude to Oman for playing a critical role in negotiating the release. "This could not have been possible without the support and mediation efforts of the Sultanate of Oman, for which we are eternally grateful," the DFA stated.

Currently in the care of the Philippine Embassy in Muscat, Oman, the seafarers will soon be repatriated to Manila. The DFA is expediting their return to ensure they can finally embrace their families who have waited so patiently and endured so much.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also shared his joy in a statement, highlighting the importance of this milestone. "It is with utmost joy that I announce the safe release of all 17 Filipino seafarers, along with the rest of the crewmembers of M/V Galaxy Leader," he said. He extended heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the Omani government for their mediation, which played a vital role in the release.

The President also emphasized the importance of protecting the rights and welfare of Filipino seafarers. "This is why I signed the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers into law—to safeguard their rights, promote their employment, and ensure equal opportunities in the maritime industry."

This triumphant moment is a testament to the power of quiet diplomacy and the dedication of the men and women of the DFA, who worked tirelessly for 429 days to secure the release of these seafarers.

As the nation awaits the return of these heroes, this story serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the Filipino spirit and the importance of standing together to protect and support our kababayans wherever they may be. Welcome home, our brave seafarers.
