Alejandro, who passed away on November 5, 2024, leaves behind a legacy as an artist, a mentor, and a true advocate for the arts.

Robert’s journey with Papemelroti began in his early years, sculpting clay figurines and painting items for the family’s gift shop, helping transform it into the iconic Filipino brand we know today. With its handmade crafts and meaningful designs, Papemelroti has brought joy and inspiration to many, and Robert’s visionary contributions were instrumental in shaping the brand’s soul.

Beyond his work with Papemelroti, Robert’s passion extended to numerous causes and communities. He was a founding member of Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK), the Philippines’ first organization for children’s book illustrators, and a tireless volunteer for organizations like PAWS, Wild Bird Club of the Philippines, and Habitat for Humanity. During the pandemic, he lifted spirits with free online art workshops for children, reminding everyone that art is for all — an ethos he carried through his years of hosting “Art-isKool,” a TV show dedicated to making art accessible and fun for kids.

Robert’s creative pursuits were as diverse as his passions, spanning everything from book illustration and environmental graphics to theme park installations and portrait art. His talent and kindness have not only inspired fellow artists but have also encouraged young Filipinos to see the beauty and power of their unique talents.
