Rep. Sandro Marcos Breaks His Silence: Defends Family And Calls For Respectful Dialogue

It looks like Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos has finally had enough. The Senior Deputy Majority Leader, who has kept his lips sealed regarding the recent outbursts from Vice President Sara Duterte, decided it was time to speak up. For a while now, he’s chosen to stay quiet out of respect for the Vice President’s position and the responsibilities that come with it. But recent events seemed to have pushed him to the point where he just couldn’t hold back anymore.

In his statement, the congressman didn’t mince words about the Vice President's comments, describing them as more than just heated rhetoric. Her remarks, which included disturbing references to exhuming a former president and threatening an incumbent one, struck a nerve—not just with him but with many others across the country. He made it clear that it wasn’t only because these comments targeted people close to him; it was also about his duty as an Ilocano representative to stand against what he saw as an insensitive and unacceptable display.

Rep. Marcos shared that even President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. advised him to refrain from reacting publicly, suggesting that they rise above the provocations. But for Rep. Marcos, there comes a time when enough is enough, and he feels that moment is long overdue. His words carried a message not just of criticism but of concern, as he called for a more rational space where disagreements can be argued respectfully, without resorting to harmful and divisive language.

Interestingly, despite the firm tone of his statement, Sandro extended an olive branch of sorts, wishing the vice president well and hoping that she finds the peace and mental clarity she may need. For him, the success of both the vice president and the president would mean a win for the entire nation.

It seems this message isn’t just about defending his family or political stance—it’s also a reminder to keep the conversation civil, even when things get heated. With this statement, Rep. Marcos is stepping into a more prominent role, not just as a congressman but as a voice calling for more respectful and thoughtful political discourse.
