The City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office of San Juan City issued a formal apology following disturbances that marred the annual Feast of San Juan Bautista water festival on June 24, 2024.

In their statement, the city officials expressed regret over the disruptions that occurred during the traditional 'Basaan' celebration, a significant religious and cultural event commemorating the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist. The festival holds deep cultural importance for San Juan City, symbolizing its rich heritage.

Reports of disturbances prompted immediate action from the San Juan City Government, which has launched a thorough investigation into the incidents. Authorities are currently reviewing videos and other evidence to identify violations of City Ordinance No. 51, series of 2018, alongside other relevant laws. Citizens who witnessed or captured footage of the disturbances are urged to submit their evidence to the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office for further review and investigation by the San Juan City Police Station.

City officials emphasized their commitment to ensuring accountability for those responsible for the disruptions and pledged to implement measures aimed at preventing similar incidents during future celebrations. They encouraged affected parties to contact the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office for more information or to submit evidence related to the disturbances.

The San Juan City Government reiterated its apology to individuals impacted by the disturbances, reaffirming its dedication to preserving the sanctity of the 'Basaan' tradition and maintaining the safety and enjoyment of all participants in future festivities.
