The start of School Year 2024-2025 is just around the corner, set for July 29 as the Department of Education (DepEd) gradually returns to the old school year calendar. But not all students will be heading back to their classrooms on that date. According to DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, some schools may have to postpone their openings due to the extensive clean-up and repairs needed after recent weather disturbances.

"Some schools will really have to postpone their openings kasi maraming aayusin at lilinisin," Angara said. "Pero yung wala o minimal ang damages, itutuloy pa rin ang pasukan."

The Secretary emphasized that the safety and readiness of schools are top priorities. "I’ll be issuing a list tomorrow kung saan postponed ang pasukan and the regional directors will also work with the principals to assess readiness for school opening," he explained. "Hindi namin pipilitin yung mga nasalanta talaga at mahihirapan sa school opening ng Lunes."

This means that students in heavily affected areas may experience delays in starting their school year, while those in less affected areas will proceed as planned. The DepEd's proactive approach ensures that students return to a safe and conducive learning environment.

So, keep an eye out for the list of schools with postponed openings, set to be released soon.
