In a hearing led by Sen. Imee R. Marcos, the Philippine government officials and key figures were summoned to address concerns regarding the spread of anti-vaccine propaganda on social media during the COVID-19 crisis.

The inquiry, conducted by the Committee on Foreign Relations on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, highlighted Sen. Marcos's apprehensions over reported efforts to undermine China-made COVID-19 vaccines through disinformation campaigns allegedly originating from the United States.

Sen. Marcos expressed grave concerns about the implications of what she described as a "new cold war" between global superpowers, emphasizing the risks posed to Filipino citizens and national security. She stated, "Such anti-vaccination and misinformation campaigns threaten national security and more importantly, the health of Filipinos."

During the session, the Marcos-led panel also deliberated on recent developments such as the altercation at Ayungin Shoal involving the Philippine Navy and Chinese Coast Guard, resulting in injuries to a Navy officer. These incidents have escalated tensions in the region amidst broader geopolitical dynamics.

The hearing underscored the urgency of addressing the spread of false information regarding vaccines, stressing the critical need to safeguard public health and national interests against external influences.
